welcome to the dark side…
… ‘we have cookies’ (according to Ms. V). Drop-spinning is the new knitting. Well, not quite. ;) But, the creative junkie in me is having a good old time. :)
A while ago, MamaE and I decided to partake in a little mutual business. It took a little while (postal service kerfluffle) to get here, but it did:

This is Dancing Bears merino tencel. Yummy. I hadn’t touched a spindle for a long time (a decade or so - and back then, I just was not in a frame of mind to do much with it at all). I’d been kind of avoiding it, well, because, I knew what might would happen and I really am trying to keep a balanced life, you know?
However, after a few resulting yarn barf trial runs, it’s starting to turn into this:

I’d plied a total of about 5 yards and I began researching wheels… eek. Didn’t take long (even I was shocked how quickly it all developed). I know what I’m saving my donuts for these days. ;)
I emailed [M]Adminnie to ’send roving, please’ (metaphorically speaking). Turns out I like spinning. Go figure. ;)
Last week, in my post office box was

The post office lady is used to me doing little dances. ;)

I’ve discovered drop-spinning is particularly meditative during the Canucks games (especially when they’re not doing too well) vs. knitting (sometimes the tension gets just a little wonky ;)). MrB even saw fit to design and build a bit of a plying box for me. I am spoiled, it seems.
You do know what’s coming, tho…
Ted and I had a few chats about colour and roving and spinning - I really appreciate the proximity of so much expertise via the internet and folks taking the time to share with me.
Well…

The top two are SW Merino, the last one is BFL. Constructive comments are welcome (this is new territory for me). Creative junkie me couldn’t help myself - I had to order stock anyways and it wasn’t too tricky to tack on a few pounds of roving. ;)
I do have some knitting progress as well, but I think I’ll save that for another post - check the new Ravelry sidebar to see some of it, if you’re on Ravelry.
These days I’m quite deep into re-working the shopping cart at Oceanwind Knits (which is not particularly fun but sometimes, things just have to be done). Stay tuned, lots of new stuff should be showing up over the next few weeks.
Sock club mailings have started to go out, too. (I’m particularly excited about this first mailing, anxious to see everyone’s reactions).
Stay warm. :) I could complain about the Canadian winter, but given I’ve chosen to live in the snowbelt (vs. the balmy SW part of BC where we used to reside) I am trying to take it as positively as possible. I remind myself regularly I am not homeless, I have lots of woolies to keep warm with, and, unlike many folks out there, I work from home so do not need to drive very often in stormy snowy weather. Not much to complain about then, is there?
Except for, maybe, the Canucks… xing fingers for some wins, yeah.
Oh, and I did (eventually) locate both knitting gauges as well as a few other things I’d misplaced. ;) 5 more days of Mercury retrograde remain… who knows what might happen lol.
