good grief…

Nearly every time I sit down here, having finally found time to slip in a blog post and edit photos for the website [etc., etc.] I find it’s been a month or so already since the last time… sigh.

The summer has flown, between a busy time in the dye room (a huge THANK YOU to all of you who are keeping me busy …you rock my world!), baseball (we finally lost in the second playoff round, so, see you next summer), moving parents (yes, they are more or less habituated, [good grief, WHAT an event]… NO ONE is moving for YEARS or I may have a stint in the loony bin… last summer I gave up to packing the preparing for a move across Canada; this summer I added my assistance when possible to moving parents… I think the latter move was more complicated LOL), the heat and humidity (both dyeing and knitting are challenging in this weather) and attempting a few minor renovations (I think I was able to achieve about 25% of what I’d intended to… who knows, maybe there will be some very odd reason in September where I am still able to do some painting around the house? [insert sneering cackling and finger-pointing here :P].

Technically, I suppose, there is still nearly a month of summer left, but it is, between these waves of sub-tropical sticky sweaty heat and humidity, feeling more like fall. It’s one of those things which sort of happens around here over night, due to a shift in the jet-stream changing airflows and weather patterns. I’m sure the Ubergeek could be more specific. ;)

So what do I have to show, after all of this crammed into such a short bit of time sans snow?

Well, aside from many many skeins of yarn now in knitting baskets and on store shelves around the globe, I have snuck in a bit of knitting, usually late at night when it was quiet enough to sit still, or during bits of ‘wait time’ - yarn takes FOREVER to dry in this type of sticky weather -

tuscany shawl from no sheep for you

This is “Tuscany” from No Sheep For You, in Handmaiden Sea Silk, Pumpkin. It is one of my ‘lala’ knitting projects (’lala’ meaning I am not working out the pattern as I go - it is sheer joy to follow a pattern sometimes ;)). It’s not really moving along as much as I’d like, but so be it. I totally had to make it after seeing and fondling Amy’s original at one of her tour stops.

sienna worsted cable
This is a shot of something I’m working on in Oceanwind Knits Worsted Merino, in the Sienna colourway.

And this …
elderberry sleeve
is another project in a new colourway (coming up this fall) called ‘Elderberry’. Elderberries grow wild around here, but I have not managed to acquire any this summer. They make awesome jam and pies, and turn your fingertips a rich wine colour for weeks if you’re working with them.

There are a few other lala projects around here (not to mention the two-year-old, soon to be three, who generally wreaks havoc in a zig-zagging path on a daily basis), too, as yet unphoto’d. Who knows how far I’ll get with any of them (hoping the two-year-old takes a breather from zig-zagging one of these days!). I have to admit, because my knitting time is limited lately, I have been on a bit of a bender and over-come with fits of startitis. Although I am certain there is therapy for startitis, I am just fine with the little bits of exhilaration which come when anticipating the first cast on stitch of a new project. I could partake in other recreational activities to achieve the same kind of ‘buzz’, I guess, but I’d rather knit. ;)

In other news, I’ve slept now and again. ;) And read blogs… I am really enjoying following everyone’s summer activities. Be well

[edited to add...] I forgot this :
silk peek
another newbie. :) 100% silk, sportweight, coming this fall. :)
