nekkid dyeing party…

OK, not really.

But, it’s so hot these days I wish I was sitting here wearing only this:

Oyster Bay Shawl Oceanwind Knits

Oyster Bay Shawl Oceanwind Knits

However…

Modesty is big in this town (and my 11-year-old son would find it just a bit weird for his taste).

I am so happy to get it off the needles after many months of late night knitting (while skeins dried and such, lest anyone waiting on yarn thinks I ditched dyeing up orders in favour of knitting ;)). I’m hoping to have the pattern published by next week.

Today, however, it really is too hot to dye. And, I’ve caught up on several orders, so skeining it will be.

It has been soooooooooo busy lately. My parents, who live about 20 minutes from here, have opted to list their property and move closer (into town, which will be an event for my Dad who has only ever lived on a farm or in the country). So over the past several weeks, much clutter - stuff, in some cases, older than his children, and fairly useless - was sorted, removed, burned, taken to the dump or otherwise removed from the premises, and we found the basement floors and walls. :) Lots of work but rewarding in the end. Having moved across the country several times, I have very few qualms about removing things from the moving pile if able. You’d better really LOVE it, in my books, or lose it, and don’t take your time about it, eh?

With that, and baseball games, BBQs, and discouraging the wee troublemaker from his usual habit of running straight out the front door and down to the road to get a closer look at the cars (he is absolutely obsessed, and one cannot take your eye away from him while outdoors for a split second - he is exhausting! - if it were not considered illegal to leash one’s child, I would certainly consider it, for his own safety) and school wind-up concerts and what have you, it’s been quite active around here lately. And, of course, we’re into the dog days of summer…

I also managed, during this general flurry, to paint the front door, so it’s no longer a boring white, but a neato blue called ‘Blue Ridge’ with ‘Mystical Savannah’ (warm cream) and ‘Captetown Taupe’ as accents… I meant to provide some before and after pics but haven’t quite gotten so far yet.

Also -

Two new items at Oceanwind Knits! In the shop (I have yet to update the main site, yet, because, well, I’m slow)…

… you will find…

Oceanwind Knits Worsted MerinoHand-dyed Worsted Weight Merino
Premium buttery-soft superwash merino, hand-painted, veil/kettle-dyed.

… and…

Oceanwind Knits Suri Silk LaceHand-dyed Suri Silk Lace
Silky smooth Suri Silk Lace, hand-painted, veil/kettle-dyed.

I am so excited. I love both of these products, and they are super beautiful to work with.

And thus, I must return to the usual flurry around here… keep cool.

quickie update…

Yes, I know, pathetic blogging lately. Excuse? There is not enough time in the day, most days, especially now that we’re heavily into the baseball season and are out of the house lots for practices and games. OK, that’s a reason, not an excuse. I don’t have an excuse. I wish my excuse were that I’m just too busy knitting, but I need to schedule in knitting time most days. ;) Usually, after midnight is when that happens.

There are many things which cross my mind on a daily basis which have me thinking, oh, cool, blog about that, and suddenly it’s 1 am… sigh.

I did, however, want to share this now that it’s published:

Oasis Shawl Lori Law
Particulars:
Pattern currently available via Big Sky Knitting (Summer 07 Twists and Turns issue)
Yarn used for sample - Headwater Wool’s Ilga

Yes, it’s cabled laceweight yarn. The result, although not necessarily the first thought you might have of doing when you pick up a skein of laceweight, is wonderfully defined but stretchy and scuptural but very light. So you get a bit of texture and interest without weighing down your shawl. It’s not something you’d want to knit up in a slippery yarn, but lace merino or wool or wool blend would work well. It’s also a great chance to master cabling without a CN, because there is a lot of repetition so you are repeating the same maneuvers… very meditative once you get into it. If you’d rather use a CN, it’s still quite a quick knit because of the repetition.

Oh, and there are new colours in the Oceanwind Knits Shop, I just haven’t added them to the main site (again, no time… one of these days…).

Anyways…

I decided to post this before I head to the post office and then the dye-room, since leaving anything for later is just not a wise decision these days.

I do, however, have to get to it. Hope everyone is well!
