As I mentioned to someone recently, I hardly have time to pee these days. I do take the time. :P The list of ‘what I could/should be doing’ at any given moment these days is long. Sometimes, overwhelming. Enjoyable? Yes. Tiring? Yes.
Despite the rotating list in my head constantly reminding me of obligations, events and ‘to do’ items, I decided to take a few moments today to grab a few springy photos and update this poor forlorn blog. My back agreed that it wasn’t a bad idea, as well.
Over the past weeks, finding time to sit still has been infrequent, but last weekend, I took a day to do some mondo gardening. Good for the soul, good for the garden, strenuous for the back… all in all rewarding, despite my back’s protesting.
Several days later, we have this to show for the work:

This is what I like to call the Zen Garden Corner of the deck. It’s a clematis with some creeping jenny in a box my husband put together. The rocks are from ‘our beach’, where my husband grew up, and where I love to sit and knit and gaze at the Pacific: Oyster Bay on Vancouver Island. It will be years, I expect, before we get a chance to walk the beach there, again. Whenever we go, we collect a few things; rocks, shells, beach-combing leftover objects… I have a thing for the blue rocks with the white stripes. Most of the rocks on the Island are volcanic and unique.
Another sort of ‘zen’ corner in development:

This is below our deck, a white hydrangea bush with some baltic ivy, which I hope will enjoy the lattice. I’m going to add some hostas and maybe a fern to round everything out.
Colour and form are starting to burst out all over the garden:

A few weeks ago I was asking folks what the ‘purple shoots’ were pushing up at the front of the house. Amazing how fast things grow, eh? Purple shoots no more…

We updated the deck over the last few weeks, too. So with the leftovers, my hubby built a little feeder for the finches and other small birds. I love how our deck seems to sit up in the large sugar maple behind it. The spot has become quite a popular hangout:

In between, I’ve doodled with some new laceweight I’m working with (Suri-silk):

As usual, pattern and yarn in development lol. One of these days I WILL get Oceanwind Knits updated. If anyone is interested, it’s 70% Suri Alpaca, 30% Silk, very soft and yummy, $15CAD per 50g skein, close to 500 yds per skein. If you’d like to pre-order or what have you, just blip me via the contact form. It’s currently available in all of the colours I’ve done up so far for the merino, but I don’t have pics of the colours just yet. It’s slightly more muted than the merino, but not too much.
As well, there is a KAL for the Persephone’s Socks pattern for anyone who’s interested:

Amanda posted a pic of her socks done up in a beautiful periwinkle colourway, which were for her Bloomin’ Feet pal, J.
One more cool addition to my studio/office:

It’s made of oak, I think by hand. Amazing what one finds at auctions. :)
And, in a nutshell… I go back to work. ;)
