persephone’s socks

persephone's socks Oceanwind KnitsOk, I worked like a little mad bunny yesterday, and this sock is now available for your knitting pleasure in pattern form. :)

Now, to be able to wear clogs again, that would be nice. However, we have 3 feet of snow at the moment, so I guess I will just be wearing mine indoors for now. ;)

productivity while hibernating

On the first clear morning after a week-long blizzard, it does feel a bit like one is waking up after a long nap. Well, not quite, given all the complacency which goes out the window when you need to consider whether or not you have things on hand and if you don’t, when you can get out to get them. But, looking out the window and seeing nothing but white fluff and hearing the same dull droning wind for an extended period of time seems to have some sort of lulling affect on one’s corneas or something. It was difficult to not want to curl up and give my brain and eyeballs a break for days on end. Luckily, we are mostly skirting this current wave of snow, but I know many of you out there are dealing with it quite personally. Stay warm and safe

While hibernating, I managed to be fairly productive (given how the roads were closed more than they were open forcing us to stick around home, this really isn’t a surprise lol).

However, here is a bit of photographic evidence:

spring socks Now I really feel like I’m waiting for spring… this dame was knitted three times before she came together. However, I am really happy with the results, and satisfied enough to draft the pattern officially. I have a partner to this one, but she will have to be re-knitted to match.

saturday socksAnd these are absolutely just perfectly warm and cushy for the cold. Amazing what a little broken rib will do for warmth.

Also managed lots of dyeing, getting new colourways together:

These are still in their ‘off the drying rack’ glory and haven’t been re-skeined yet. And, more are on the way. :) All of these will be posted at Oceanwind Knits soon. It feels so good to get ‘colours’ out of my head and into production. Since I’m not painting these days (it’s quite tricky to set up the easel with the two-year-old child bumbling about) dyeing has become my ‘art fix’. Not that I would have time to paint lol.

And, the Canucks are still doing well… quite a novelty. It’s quite nice to sit down and watch them win regularly now.

Tonight, however, it’s all Grey’s Anatomy and Men in Trees… after years of not watching TV (my choice, I wasn’t interested) I have to chuckle at myself and how hooked I’ve become. It’s therapeutic, no? ;) That’s where I’m going with it…

Stay warm out there

all dressed up and…

From the MTO website…

Winter related closures and unscheduled traffic events
Last updated: February 4, 2007 as of 11: 12 p.m.

Highways Area Reason for Closure

10 Southwestern is closed from Shelburne to Markdale due to whiteout conditions.
8 Southwestern is closed from Clinton to Stratford due to whiteout conditions.
23 Southwestern is closed from Listowel to Highway 7 (Elginfield Road) due to whiteout conditions.
17 Ignace is partially closed westbound 49 kilometers East of Ignace, due to a collision. Ontario Provincial Police is letting traffic through intermittently; having difficulty removing unit.
21 Southwestern is closed from Port Elgin to Goderich due to whiteout conditions.
9 Southwestern is closed from Kincardine to Harriston due to whiteout conditions.
17 Sault Ste Marie is closed between Batchwana, 563 junction and Wawa due to whiteout conditions.

…No place to go… the MTO has put it pretty bluntly. And I know from listening to the local radio station there are many not mentioned, here… like all roads in my county lol. Technically, I’m not allowed to leave my driveway… and really, given how it looks out there, I would be really stupid to think about it.

Good thing we are homebodies. And, knitting is great on stormy days. :) Secretly, I rather like this weather for some strange reason… no expectations? No obligations? Not sure.

I feel for folks more rural than us. I have done that scenario in the past, it’s not quite as fun as living in town when the roads are closed down. We are a few block’s walk from whatever we might need (milk, eggs, etc.). Well, I suppose that is given supplies don’t run too short for retailers, depending on whether they can replenish. There has been a blizzard warning issued (vs. the usual snow-squall warnings) which is pretty rare, even for the snowbelt here.

Hoping everyone is toasty, wherever they are.
